![]() ![]() ![]() While Sammy had been praised by the neighborhood residents for being a generous man, and later eulogized by Charles Laveau (through his pirate radio broadcast) for helping pay the rent or medical bills of those who were destitute, as well as donating large amounts of food to the local soup kitchen, Cassandra scoffed at this as "a man who gave people a couple cans of food when the need hit him". Cassandra did not like how Sammy commanded Delray Hollow, believing him to run it in an olympian manner, as well as being too timid to stand up to Marcano when he did something that put the neighborhood at a disadvantage. Cassandra's hatred was not as intense, later remarking that while she did not like Sammy paying tribute to Marcano, she was a realist on that part, knowing the Black Mob was too small and weak to avoid this. Baka's hatred was that Sammy was kicking up to white gangsters. These attacks were commanded by Baka, who had a greater hatred of Sammy than even Cassandra did. ![]() By 1967, Cassandra would learn that the Black Mob leader, Sammy Robinson, would start to serve Italian mob boss Sal Marcano, which led her to attack his rackets. The second floor above the store served as her private residence and office to coordinate criminal affairs. Cassandra would have a daughter named Caroline, who lived with her mother and her great-grandmother in a shanty in the bayou.Ĭassandra managed a voodoo shop that was originally owned by Kilmic Eugene Robbins who bought the building in 1905, but there were no real estate records to show how the property transferred from him to Cassandra. Due to the mystery surrounding her, Cassandra was rumored to be a vampire or zombie resurrected via voodoo magic, which is highly unlikely. Despite her hard childhood, she found a companion in her sister, whom she said would play jump rope and hopscotch with until dusk.Īs a full-grown woman, Cassandra fell in with the Haitian mafia and lived in Bayou Fantom. She also mentions having one sister, whom she said she adored. She said her mother noted a streak of alriusm in her and hoped she could parlay that into a career in education, but she could not imagine the idea of her growing up to become a teacher. A picture is briefly seen of her as a little girl with her father, whom she said emigrated to the U.S. It is unknown if she was born in Haiti or was a first-generation American. Not much is known about Cassandra's past, but it's noted that she had a troubled childhood. ![]()
